It is merely for research. Please answer the questions honestly and as detailed as possible. Thanks very much!

Yes, its a lifestyle. There isn't anything else like it. Doesn't matter where you are or what ur doing, u can't stop thinking about it. Its a drug.

How old are you?
16 in a month
How long have you been involved in skating for?
a month before this winter (a few months)
What inspired you to start skating?
i started watching videos on youtube and it just looked so amazing
How often do you go skating?
well, it just warmed up and i'm crunching my grades right now but during spring brake probably about every other day
What areas/bowls/parks do you skate at?
at this park near my house (outdoor) but i'm still learning and they're pretty tough there so i usually just go in my neighborhood if i'm not with another girl skater
Have you made or maintained any friendships/bonds within the skating community?
you meet people at the parks and then find them on myspace and im them
Are your closest friends the ones you skate with?
pretty close.... only a few of my friends skate
Have people started skating as a result of your involvement in the sport?
i'm trying to convince some of my friends to start (girls) and they might, but they care about getting hurt and stuff so i don't know how that'll work out
What attracts you about skating?
the overall culture and carefree DIY ora of it all. its a rebel sport
What, in your opinion, makes a good skater?
just going for things and trying new stuff
What, in your opinion, makes a bad skater?
people who are too paralyzed by fear to even try anything. and girls who are just in it to meet boys
How would you rate yourself personally as a skater?
i pretty much just started so i'm still crappy but i'll try stuff without that much hesitation even if i know i'll fall (and not just because of stupidity haha)
What pushes you to be a better skater and try new things?
proving to myself i can do it and knowing that i can build new tricks and skills off of it
Are there any rivalries between the skating community and any other communities? If yes, who are they and why?
um... well it just pisses me off when people are like "YOU skate????" and are suprised by it and laugh at me about it because its just a hobby and people just assosiate all these things with it (i don't know if that answers your question)
How do you think skaters are viewed by the general public?
dirty haha
Do you think the general community treat skaters fairly? Why?
no becuase i've seen cops totally stereotype skaters and treat them worse than normal teens.
Do you think that skating is becoming more commercialized? If yes, how do you think this will affect skateboarding?
yes it has. tours are all sponsored and everyones sponsored and everyone has brand name shirts and stuff. they don't realize that volcom and brands like that are pretty much just substitutes for hollister and stuff like that. I personally try to avoid buying stuff just for the brand and giving into shit like that.
Do you think the skating community has changed over time? What do you think has contributed to this change or lack of?
its become popularized and, as you said, commercialized. It started off as homemade expieriments and has ended up as a sub-culture like goth or prep.
Do you think that large companies (eg. Element, Globe, Independent) are good or bad for skateboarding? Why?
i feel they cheapen it and take away from its uniquness and origionallity. they mass produce and sell this image of "skater"
Do you feel that the skating community is overridden with ‘posers’ or ‘groupies’?
haha yeah but that is unavoidable to a point...kids will always be dumb
What methods of communication do you use to stay in contact with the rest of the skating community (ie. MSN, SMS/mobile (cell) phones, YouTube, Myspace, forums)?
myspace, youtube, aim
If you were to pick a song, band or genre of music that best describes the vibe of skating, what would you choose and why?
ummmm i don't know because many kids i have met that skate listen to totally different types of music....i guess fake emo stuff like fall out boy....but i don't really think thats really ture
Do you have a career that links to or involves skating? If yes, what is it? If no, do you hope to make it a career?
i don't really have a specific career thought out all i know is that i want to change the world for the better in some way and if my shitty skating somehow falls into that then that would be great
What is your fondest memory as a skater?
when i went down my first flow i was so concentrated on my skateboard and my feet that i ran right into this grind rail and fell really weird, it was hilarious
Can you imagine life without skating?
yeah....its called winter
Is it fair to say that skating is more than just a sport? What are your opinions on this?
yes because an entire sub-culture has built off of it

How old are you? 18

How long have you been involved in skating for? 6yrs

What inspired you to start skating? It started out as an extension of my surfing

How often do you go skating? Everyday

What areas/bowls/parks do you skate at? Skatebarn in Hampstead NC, Up and down the NC coast

Have you made or maintained any friendships/bonds within the skating community? All of my friends are skaters

Are your closest friends the ones you skate with? Hells yeah

Have people started skating as a result of your involvement in the sport? I am proud to say that my little brother is a shredder because I got him skating.

What attracts you about skating? Speed, Speed, More speed, and did I mention speed. Honorable mentions: Pool Coping, Vertical Concrete

What, in your opinion, makes a good skater? A fast and loose skater is a good skater. I don't care how many flip tricks you can do because in the end if you don't have good style you suck.

What, in your opinion, makes a bad skater? Bam Margera...people that try way too hard, people that skate bowls like mini ramps, people that have no style because it is just painful to watch.

How would you rate yourself personally as a skater? I'm number one...duh. Followed very closely by my good friends and little brother.

What pushes you to be a better skater and try new things? Skating with my friends, if they throw down a rad trick then I'm automatically trying to up the ante.

Are there any rivalries between the skating community and any other communities? If yes, who are they and why? Skater vs rollerbladers and BMXers. Bikes tear up ramps, and rollerbladers just look silly. No one wants to see a guy running around a park in a pair of roller boots doing spaz airs.

How do you think skaters are viewed by the general public? Losers and I hope it stays that way because it cuts down on those who aren't truly dedicated.

Do you think the general community treat skaters fairly? Why? The general public does for the most part, the law on the other hand is still not on our side.

Do you think that skating is becoming more commercialized? If yes, how do you think this will affect skateboarding? Yes, it affects skateboarding by making it seam more accessible to the mainstream public. A lot of kids start skating because of this, but few of them do it forever.

Do you think the skating community has changed over time? What do you think has contributed to this change or lack of? Its changing, because of the commercialization, its raising a generation of robots.

Do you think that large companies (eg. Element, Globe, Independent) are good or bad for skateboarding? Why? They're good because without them I don't have a job. That being said, if you have local skate manufacturer or shop support them at all costs because they are the ones giving back to the community.

Do you feel that the skating community is overridden with ‘posers’ or ‘groupies’? Yes

What methods of communication do you use to stay in contact with the rest of the skating community (ie. MSN, SMS/mobile (cell) phones, YouTube, Myspace, forums)? I see them in person one a daily basis.

If you were to pick a song, band or genre of music that best describes the vibe of skating, what would you choose and why? Metal- ASG and Thunderlip are some local bands that get me pumped. Metal is fast and out of control which is the way skating is supposed to be.

Do you have a career that links to or involves skating? If yes, what is it? If no, do you hope to make it a career? Yes, I work at 360.

What is your fondest memory as a skater? I don't have one specific memory, every day of skating is funner than doing any thing else.

Can you imagine life without skating? A world without skating is a world I don't want to live in.

Is it fair to say that skating is more than just a sport? What are your opinions on this? Skating is way beyond a sport, skaters have a totally different perspective on the world, your mind is totally transformed and you see everyday insignificant terrain as a potential spot. The city is a concrete jungle and I'm here to tear it down.
